APRILIA INFORMATION

Aprilia started life shortly after the end of WW2 as a bicycle maker in Noale, Italy on the outskirts of Venice the company was founded by Alberto Beggio. Aprilia branched into motorcycle making with the advent of Alberto's son taking over the running of the company in 1968 their first model being a 50cc Scooter moped called the Colbrini followed shortly by further models the Daniela and Packi. In the 1970's Aprilia produced a motocross bike called the Scarabeo this was available in both 50cc and 125cc models. It was the Scarabeo that heralded Aprilias arrival on the race bike scene when in 1977 Ivan Alborgheti won the Italian 125 and 250cc motocross championships on Aprilia bikes. Later in the 1980s Aprilia started to produce both road and trials bikes for the racing market. Aprilia today now supports a large racing fraternity particularly on the smaller engined formulas and has built up a large fan base in the super bike fraternity.
